What this tool does and does not do
This is an illustration, not financial, tax or legal advice, and not a recommendation to buy or sell anything. Results are estimates produced from the figures you enter and will not match your actual retirement outcome. Investment returns are not guaranteed and past performance does not predict future results.
Simplifications you should know about. Everything is shown in today’s dollars using a real rate of return. CPP and OAS are treated as fully indexed to inflation and use current published maximums, which change every year. Tax is applied as a single effective rate you choose, not a marginal bracket calculation, and provincial differences are ignored. The OAS recovery tax is estimated. Savings are drawn non-registered first, then registered, then TFSA, which may not suit your situation. Minimum RRIF withdrawals, insurance, real estate, business interests, spousal income splitting and estate objectives are not modelled. A real plan accounts for all of it.
