On Thursday, October 8, Ventum Financial will come together for Impact Day, supporting Kindred Foundation and its work helping children, young adults and families navigate a cancer diagnosis.
For many families, accessing the treatment their child needs can mean travelling far from home — sometimes to another province or even outside of Canada. Along with the emotional challenges of a cancer diagnosis, families can suddenly face the added costs of travel, accommodations, meals and time away from work.
Through its U-Link Patient and Family Fund, Kindred Foundation provides financial support to families across Canada who must travel to access treatment through clinical trials for children and young adults with cancer.
Meet the Families Behind the Impact
This year, Kindred Foundation shared the stories of four families who received support through the U-Link Patient and Family Fund. Their experiences show the very real difference this support can make when families are navigating an incredibly difficult time.
Meet Chloe
When Chloe needed proton radiation that wasn’t available in Canada, her family travelled to Florida for treatment. While her treatment was covered, their flights and living expenses were not. U-Link helped support the family’s flight costs.
Meet Kamal
After Kamal’s cancer relapsed for a second time, his family relocated from Ottawa to Montreal for a bone marrow transplant. What was expected to be six weeks away from home became ten, bringing additional costs for travel, accommodations, meals, parking and time away from work.
Meet Lev
Lev and his family travelled to Maryland to participate in a research study for a new CAR T-cell treatment — a journey that included approximately 2,000 km of driving and expenses not covered by the program. U-Link helped ease some of that financial pressure.
Meet Livia
When two-year-old Livia’s treatment required her family to spend three months in Boston, they faced approximately $14,000 in unexpected expenses. U-Link provided financial support to help offset some of those costs.
